James L. Tyree is Executive Vice President, Pharmaceutical Products Group. Tyree first joined Abbott from 1978 to 1979 as a business analyst.  He rejoined the company in June 1997, and has served in various management positions.  These include President, Abbott Nutrition International; Divisional Vice President, Global Licensing and New Business Development; Divisional Vice President and General Manager for Abbott's International Division in Japan; and Sr. Vice President, Global Nutrition. He most recently served as Sr. Vice President, Pharmaceutical Products Division.   He assumed his current role in August 2007.   

Prior to joining Abbott, Tyree was president of Sugen Inc., a biotechnology start-up company.

He serves on the board of directors for TAP Pharmaceuticals.  He is a member of the advisory boards of the Polsky Center of Entrepreneurship at the University of Chicago and the Kellogg Center for Biotechnology at Northwestern University. He is past chairman and current member of the executive committee of the board of directors of the Illinois Biotechnology Industry Organization.

He earned bachelor's degrees in psychology and forensic studies and a master's degree in business administration from Indiana University.
