Norbert G. Riedel, Ph.D.
NORBERT G. RIEDEL, Ph.D., is corporate vice president and chief scientific officer of Baxter International Inc., having served in that capacity since March 2001. He joined Baxter in 1998 as president of the recombinant unit within Baxter's BioScience business. Prior to joining Baxter, he was head of worldwide biotechnology and core research functions at Hoechst Marion Roussel, now Sanofi-Aventis.
Dr. Riedel received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Frankfurt in 1983. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University from 1984 - 1987, assistant professor and associate professor of medicine and biochemistry at Boston University School of Medicine from 1987 - 1991, and a visiting professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1992. He remains affiliated with Boston University as an adjunct professor and also has an adjunct professor of medicine appointment at Northwestern University.Dr. Riedel serves on the board of directors of Oscient Pharmaceuticals Corporation and Medigene AG. He is currently serving as chairman and member of the executive committee of the board of directors of the Illinois Biotechnology Industry Organization, and is a member of the Advisory Board of The Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management Center for Biotechnology.
