Robert A. Easter

Robert A. Easter was appointed Dean of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois on July 21, 2002.  Easter served as interim dean from August 2001 until July 2002 and as head of the Department of Animal Sciences from August 1996 to August 2001 and has been on the Animal Sciences faculty since 1976.

Dr. Easter was reared on a grain and livestock farm in southwest Texas.  He earned an undergraduate degree in Agricultural Education in 1970 and an M.S. degree in animal nutrition in 1972, both from Texas A&M.  He completed a doctorate in Animal Science at the University of Illinois in 1976 and immediately joined the Animal Sciences Department faculty as an assistant professor of swine nutrition and management.  He currently holds the rank of professor.

For more than 30 years, Dr. Easter has conducted research in swine nutrition and lectured on swine nutrition and production at the University of Illinois.  He has directed 20 students to the completion of the doctoral degree and has supervised 23 M.S. degree candidates.  He was the co-founder of the Advanced Swine Production Technology short course taught at the University of Illinois and has taught short courses on swine nutrition and production in both Costa Rica and China for more than 15 years.  He has co-authored a text on swine production and has more than 80 peer-reviewed articles to his credit.

Easter’s work has been recognized by his department, College and the American Society of Animal Science.  In 2006, President Bush appointed him to the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development.
