Institute Programs Education For Teachers Teacher Training In February 2007, the iBIO Institute, in partnership with iBIO, the National Biotechnology Institute and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, sponsored and conducted three free Teacher-Leader Workshops in Skokie, Carbondale and Champaign to help teachers integrate biotechnology lessons into classrooms. 75 educators from over 40 schools, including 26 from the Chicago metro area participated in these workshops which were directed at middle or high school teachers. Each full-day session provided teachers with the skills, strategies, and knowledge to engage students in understanding the promises and challenges of biotechnology, and also supply them with free teaching materials for their classrooms. iBIO Institute is currently assessing the need for future teacher professional development sessions.
