Educational Programs Overview

Education Overview

iBIO Institute supports improvement in science and math foundations in education and the implementation and achievement of standards in science and math. The Institute develops and delivers programs that engage, and educate about life sciences, and inspire more talented young people to pursue careers in the sciences.

A dimension of each of these activities is outreach to underserved communities, in order to widen the talent pool available to biotechnology organizations and to extend the relatively high paying job opportunities in the biosciences to our entire population.

iCON Awards

iBIO Institute iCON Awards were developed to recognize the important role of education, research, and training in fostering growth and building the next generation of Midwest biotechnology and life sciences innovators and leaders.  These awards celebrate the achievements of the most inspired academic, civic, and business leaders who nurture education, training, and scholarship in the life sciences in Illinois.

Teacher Professional Development
Quality education begins with enabling teachers.

The TalentSparks! Biotech Teacher Workshop provides intensive skills development in biotechnology, generates  enthusiasm about biotech through hands-on activities, and empowers and inspires teachers to develop their own biotechnology programs. Formal presentations and interaction with peers and industry professionals, help teachers explore the full breadth of potential career choices available in biotech and the life sciences.

Career Links
Career Links was established in 2005, and in its first year, drew over 250 students from around the Chicago-land area.  The half-day Career Links program provides graduating students from professional schools with insights into the career opportunities and possibilities available in the life sciences.  Student participants will speak to and draw from the experiences of recent grads and upper-level professionals in some of the top life-sciences firms.

As part of Career Links, the Institute has also developed the iBIO Career Website, the only career site dedicated solely to the Illinois Life Sciences Community.

CareerLinks will be a part of the 2009 iBIO IndEx
